lilacs - the final chapter

Seems like I waited a long time for the full bloom of my one and only beloved lilac bush.
Here it is and I'm not disappointed

Can't you smell it?

This shot was tweeked with picasa's picnik in a 60's style.

The day after I took these photos the mad pruner, pruned the heck out of this bush and I loaded up all my vases, mason jars and pitchers with the long lasting lovely lilac scent.
It remains to be seen if I get any blooms at all next year.

A wedding without cake

This is Dan and Vicky. Dan is my nephew. Dan is my first nephew to get married (I have 9). Dan and Vicky's wedding was the reason Hubby and I were back in the Chicago area last weekend. It was a lovely wedding and an awesome reception.

Speaking of reception, I had been so looking forward to the wedding cake. I know, I know but I didn't cheat on my diet for a whole week just so I could indulge in ...yum...wedding cake.
Imagine my surprise when Vicky announced that there was not to be the traditional cake and all the cutting, face smashing etc. *sigh*  Then they brought out individual...see below

Chocolate Souffle with Creme Anglaise
prepared by Scott Jambrosek, Sous Chef at La Sardine
Vicky works there and this is her favorite dessert.

Forget about cake, I'm with her.
She will forever be my favorite niece-in-law (especially if she can get the recipe for me)

Oh yeah, they had a late night Ice Cream Sundae Bar too! A little bit of fat, carb and calorie heaven.

project 64 - asparagus, or how many shades of green ARE there?

I love this photo, I love this spot, I love ALL the shades of green,
I'm sure the color of the week, asparagus is in there somewhere.

This lovely spot was taken last week on a mini trip back to the Chicago suburbs where hubby and I grew up. This spot is in Morton Arboretum. We used to spend a great deal of time there when we were in high school and I had daydreams about getting married on the little hill overlooking this lake pond. Didn't happen but the spot still holds fond memories 39 years later.

seems like I've been waiting forever for this lilac bush to get to full, heavenly scented, glorious bloom. It's still not there but close and of course I'm leaving the homestead for a looonng weekend.
that's the way it goes....the sun has finally makes an appearance for more that 2 days in a row (see blue sky peaking through the bush?) and my long awaited lilac will bloom while I'm gone. *sigh*

I guess lilacs don't do well with deadlines, May 11th came and went see my legend here
3 days later still not in full bloom but showing promise

On the other hand tree, the apple blossoms are doing quite well,
probably because I didn't set a deadline for them.

the dogwood is just fine too

lilac countdown

I'm thinking that this old lilac's bloom won't make it's usual May 11th deadline
unless it blooms overnight, do they do that?
